Sight-Line
Installation
Instructions
The
SightLine Extension Tube is
designed to fit only rifles
having a 0.750 inch parallel
section at the muzzle. Also note
that it requires the use of a
barrel-band type front sight
mount.
Materials
needed: High-strength
two-part epoxy. We use and
recommend Devcon® Plastic
Steel epoxy (available at most
auto parts stores and from
Superior Shooting Systems, Inc.)
Do not use "quick-set" epoxy as
it may not have the strength and
heat resistance necessary for a
quality installation.
1.
Test fit the extension tube. All
efforts are made to hold precise
tolerances in the SightLine but
the fit may be very snug on some
barrels.
2.
Place a small square of masking
tape over the end of the muzzle
to prevent epoxy from entering
the bore.
3.
Degrease the parallel section at
the end of the barrel and the
corresponding interior portion of
the Sightline tube. We recommend
brake cleaner or electrical motor
cleaner, make sure let the
cleaner evaporate before applying
the epoxy.
4.
Mix the epoxy according to
manufacturer directions and apply
to the barrel section and to the
SightLine interior area. Make
sure that the parts coverage is
full circumference, but not much
is needed for a proper bond since
the tolerances are very tight
(normally use about half of what
you think you will
need).
5.
Fit the SightLine using a slight
twisting motion until it stops
flush against the square shoulder
at the end of the parallel
section on the barrel. There is a
total of 2.25 inches of
engagement (interior straight
section) possible in the
SightLine tube.
6.
Clean out any excess epoxy on the
tube interior using a tight
fitting paper-towel-wrapped to
cleaning rod tip before the epoxy
begins to set. It usually takes
several attempts to fully remove
excess epoxy. Use a light to
check this area. It is not
necessary to remove the masking
tape square; the first shot
through the rifle will do that
for you.
7.
Turn the rifle to a vertical
position so the SightLine is
pointing straight up. Re-seat
(using your hand) the back end of
the SightLine tube and the
squared shoulder on the barrel
before letting the parts
cure.
It is
recommended to mount a lamp to
direct heat at the mating area to
speed curing time. This step is
not necessary but we use this
method to help ensure proper
bonding in cooler
climates.
