Final Finish and Throat Maintenance System (TMS) -- Fact or Fiction?
Being the experimenter that I am, I wanted to try for myself and learn more about Final Finish and TMS. But, it would be a few months until I had a new barrel to try it one. Hmmm... what could it do for me in the mean time? Well, what about the Palma® rifle having 2400 rounds through it? Yeah, the one with the rough throat! Bingo, I had my guinea pig!
The Final Finish kit contains bullets having grit of varying size, the final grit being very fine and each is geared towards progressively polishing finer and finer. I started my test with the finer grits, shooting 10 rounds of the three final grits working towards the final grit (very fine). Before changing to finer grit, I thoroughly cleaned the rifle. I'm talking about spic and span clean. The process works best if all copper fouling is removed, so I was patient during each cleaning cycle. Once finished with the Final Finish, I shot 10 bullets from the Throat Maintenance System (TMS) kit. Instructions are included with each kit and are excellent. What benefits did I obtain?
Before the process, the rifle shot very well. After the process it shot just as well.
Before the process, I could feel "patch drag" in the throat area as well as the first 3 inches or so of the barrel. The rough throat was catching a lot of copper from bullet jackets and causing cleaning cycles to be a long chore. After the process, there was no noticeable "patch drag". The resultant smoother finish has greatly reduced copper fouling, almost to the point of being nonexistent. Cleaning cycles now are as fast as when the barrel was new (after break in). For me, this was the real deal benefit. Now I can get the rifle clean and do so fast enough to put it back into service quickly. That's a real benefit when cleaning between matches.
So, in summary, Final Finish and Throat Maintenance System have helped me because I can now get the rifle back into service quicker. For those Long Range 1000 aggregate Regional matches, when a bunch of shooting is done in one day and when there is little time to devote to cleaning prior to the next match, it might just be the necessary medicine for your rifle, which fouls badly.

UPDATE [10.02]
Many rounds later!
Earlier I reported on my initial usage of Final Finish. My experiment was with a Palma rifle having a rough throat at 2400 rounds. Using the Final Finish smoothed the throat and made cleaning easier. That was the gist of my first report.
What have I learned 900 rounds later? The rifle still shoots great. It shoots great longer too. By that, I mean that accuracy stays very good for a greater number of rounds before a cleaning cycle becomes necessary. This rifle has been shooting so good for me that I had the confidence to take it to the U.S. Long Range Nationals and use it exclusively. That's right, the other Palma rifle with much fewer rounds on a barrel that also shoots superb stayed at home. How long will it go? Stay tuned...
